Java Analysis Studio is an application for High Energy Physics data analysis. It allows analysis of data from a wide range of data sources including PAW ntuples, SQL databases, flat files, hippo files, and (in future releases) ROOT files and Objectivity databases. Java Analysis Studio is a client-server based application, allowing desktop access to data stored anywhere on the internet. The network protocol is optimized to allow rapid access to data even over slow network connections.

Java Analysis Studio provides an easy to use graphical user interface. Users can in addition write analysis modules using the Java Language, using a set of histogramming utilities provided as part of Java Analysis Studio. See the online tutorial for more information on writing analysis modules.

This is a beta version of the Java Analysis Studio client..We welcome bug reports as well as your suggestions for new features.

New Features in 1.0

There are many new features in this version, however the most significant are:

  1. The commercial plot widget used in previous versions has been replaced by a specially written graphing "bean". The new plot system is faster and supports a wide range of direct user interaction, such as resizing and draging the axes.
  2. By default a built-in Java compiler is used instead of the external compiler required in earlier versions. The built-in source code editor now includes code highlighting.
  3. Java Analysis Studio can now be used in client-server mode as well as standalone (local) mode for analysing local data.
  4. The ability to read StdHEP generator files is now included by default.
  5. The ability to process n-tuple data as well as generic object data is now included.
  6. This version of Java Analysis Studio is based on Java 1.1.6 and Swing 1.0.3.
