Java Analysis Studio is an application for High Energy Physics data analysis. It allows analysis of data from a wide range of data sources including PAW ntuples, SQL databases, flat files, hippo files, and (in future releases) ROOT files and Objectivity databases. Java Analysis Studio is a client-server based application, allowing desktop access to data stored anywhere on the internet. The network protocol is optimized to allow rapid access to data even over slow network connections.

Java Analysis Studio provides an easy to use graphical user interface. Users can in addition write analysis modules using the Java Language, using a set of histogramming utilities provided as part of Java Analysis Studio. See the online tutorial for more information on writing analysis modules.

This is a pre-release version of the Java Analysis Studio client. It is known to have many bugs and limitations. We are planning to release new pre-release clients every few weeks from now until version 1.0 is available (early summer). We welcome your suggestions for new features.

New Features in PR3

There are many bew features in this version, however the most significant are:

  1. The ability to use Java Analysis Studio in a standalone mode, i.e. it is no longer necessary (although certainly still possible) to connect to a remote data server.
  2. The ability to directly read and analyze PAW files. The PAW interface supports reading both columnwise and rowwise n-tuples. We are eager to receive feedback on this new feature, in particular if you find n-tuple files that are not read in correctly please send them to us (or tell us where we can fetch them) so we may analyze the problem.
  3. There is now the beginings of a CUT system build into Java Analysis Studio. We hope to considerably extend this before release 1.0
