2nd March 1999

Dear Collaborator:

The HEPAP meeting occurred at SLAC yesterday and today. Peter Rowson gave the SLD talk. He gave a wonderful talk (see link from the SLD home page), which was well received by everyone. The hints of Bs mixing at 15 was intriguing.

The committee discussion focussed on the permanent loss of Z-pole physics, but there was no motion to change the SLAC management priorities of PEPII-Babar followed by NLC. (As you probably know, NLC R&D has 17M$ this year, and asked for 20M$ for FY2000. The President's budget has a cap of 12M$!)

We await the HEPAP written letter, and you may have seen the article in the New York Times predicting the lifting of the budget caps in general. However, it is difficult to be optimistic. We will have further discussions at the next SLD Week.

 Sincerely,

 Marty and Charlie
