SLD Tapes moving to Rack

To make room for more BaBar tapes in the SLAC tape silo, SLD has been asked to reduce its usage of silo slots from 10000 to 5000. We propose to remove the following categories of tapes to achieve this:

  1. User tapes that have not been used since 1 Jan 1999
  2. Tapes that were waiting to be written in the CEH
  3. MC_REC tapes prior to R17 (these are MC tapes containing full reconstruction output, as opposed to minidst only output. The minidst tapes will be kept).
  4. Uncatalogued tapes - these are tapes that do not appear in any of the SLD oracle data tables. They appear to be mainly very old MC tapes.

These tapes will be stored on racks in the computer center, and can be put back into the silo (in limited numbers and with some delay) if they are ever needed.

If you are concerned that any of the tapes you need will be removed please check the following lists, corresponding to the categories above.

  1. Tapes/torack_usertapes.lst
  2. Tapes/torack_classDS.lst
  3. Tapes/torack_prodtapes.lst
  4. Tapes/torack_uncatalog_tapes.lst

These lists will be sent to SCS on August 11th 2000. If you have any concerns please contact Tony Johnson or Karen Heidenreich.
