UVic CoOp Students in SLD and GLAST |
![]() |
The SLD group has been employing CoOp students from the Physics and Computer Science programs since 1988. Our charter students were Matthew Jones from Physics and Helmut Hissen from Computer Science.
After a hiatus of 4 years, we restarted hiring CoOp students in 1997 to work on two major projects:
Newbie introduction to SLAC
Housing: Students have historically taken rooms in private homes in the vicinity of SLAC. These are arranged by contacting SLAC Housing at Housing@slac.stanford.edu.
Getting Computer Accounts: This is a two-step process and well worth doing in advance!
- fill out a web form for the Users Group, SLUO.
- fill out the account request form and account responsibilities form. Fax these printed-out forms to Richard Dubois to get group approval.
Finding SLAC: Here are maps of the Palo Alto area. You can also use this tool for setting up your own maps.
Upon Arrival at SLAC:
- visit the SLUO welcome desk (main entrance of Building 84, next to parking lot C) to get 'signed-in'.
- sign up for radiation and safety training classes with the SLUO Coordinator
- visit the SLD Administrator to get signed up with SLD.
- go to the Badging Trailer for a temporary ID badge and dosimeter (to be replaced by permanent ones when you pass the above classes). If you have a car, you may also want them to give you a sticker for off-hours entry to the site.
- go to Personnel (building 41, 2nd floor) to get a Stanford visitors card entitling you to use of the Stanford campus facilities. Your SLAC ID will get you into most facilities, perhaps except the campus libraries.
