Web Meeting Minutes
- 15 June 1998 - Preliminary Blue Sky session
- Present: Karen Heidenreich, Kathryn Henniss, Ruth McDunn, John Jaros, Nina Stolar, Tony
Johnson, Richard Dubois
- Tony showed us his HEPVis98
website and the Access database that he used. Registrant, paper and program information
were all kept in the database. The use of Access allowed him to use other MS Office tools,
like Word to make badges.
- Kathryn talked us through WWW6. There was a lot of emphasis on interactivity of
conference participants via messaging, bulletin boards and home pages. There was much
discussion about whether some of this could be used to enfranchise non-conferees, at least
as far as submitted papers are concerned. Kathryn and Tony suggested a toy system could be
assembled to scope out the idea.
- Agreements:
- database: Access. The more we can get into the database, the better off we'll be!
- web authoring: Front Page with VB Script for database access
- Isolated Factoids:
- we should be allowed to take credit card numbers over the web
- web address should simply be http://lp99.slac.stanford.edu/
- an LP99 e-mail account has been set up
- should we consider dedicated web casts to FNAL (and maybe other national labs)? Tony
suggests after-the-fact access to the talks' video/audio from the web.
- it is still not known which Stanford facility the conference will be held in.
- consider tagging participants (invited speaker, conference chairman, etc) when
generating participant lists.
- Short term milestones:
- Nina will give Karen a list of quantities which will need to be in the database by 5/22;
Karen will start assembling version 0 of the database.
- a poster should come into existence by mid-July (for show at ICHEP98)
- the proto website should happen as soon as the poster is ready with the basic info of
conference dates, poster graphics, conference e-mail and some disclaimer about 'by
invitation only'.
- Ruth will start working on the look and feel of the conference web
